One of my classmates at the US Army Officer Candidate School used to have as her Instagram bio, “exploring humanity”, and that really stuck with me. As an explorer from an early age, I always thought of exploration as a journey to a foreign land, the discovery of a new species, a mountain climb, a spaceflight. Although I’m sure she doesn’t know it, my classmate inspired me to explore the world around me in a totally different way.
Saying, “Hi, how are ya?” to complete strangers, distant acquaintances, friends, and family, is what I’m about here. To understand who my neighbors are, what we’re going through, and build understanding across our vastly disparate Minnesotan communities is my goal.
